Vinnycchyna outstanding places

Vinnycchyna is rich on outstanding places. There are many wonderful nature places, historical places associated with the heroic past of our nation, museums, memorials and busts that immortalize the names of famous people of our Fatherland for labor and military feats on its territory. There are many places related to the residence of outstanding personalities, writers, composers, painters on Vinnycchyna. The architectural memorials of ancient times have remained in many places.

The biggest quantity of historical memorials and memorable places is in Vinnytsia city. Here in the local history museum the interesting materials from the history of the city and Podillia are collected. One of the oldest architectural memorials of Vinnytsia are the "Mury" ("Walls") – a complex of protective structures that were built in the XVII century for the Jesuitical board. The houses were surrounded by a big wall with towers and loopholes. Now the regional local history museum and the regional archives are placed in the premises of the "Walls".


The obelisk placed near the 3rd school on the place of the defeat of the Polish-gentry forces by the Cossacks army under the direction of colonel I. Bogun in 1651 reminds about the struggle of Ukrainian people against the Polish gentry.

In the days of celebrating the 20 years since the day of the Great Victory the fire of eternal glory was set on at the graves of the heroes of the Patriotic War on the memorial on Kozytskogo str.

There are memorable places associated with the struggle of the city workers against the German-fascist occupants in Vinnytsia. The headquarters of the underground city organization was placed in Ostrovskogo street in the house № 29. The underground printing office was placed in the house № 17 in Leningradska str.

The literature-memorial museum of M.M Kotsiubynskyi was opened in the house in Bevz street, where the writer was born.

There are many outstanding places in the neighborhood of Vinnytsia.

There is a big stone that is called "Kotsiubynskyi rock" on the picturesque bank of the river Southern Bug near Sabarov. Here, according to the legends, the famous Ukrainian writer wrote his earl writings.

On the neighborhood of Vinnytsia, in the village Pyrogovo (former Sheremetka) the estate museum of the great scientist-surgeon M.I. Pyrogov, that has lived his last twenty five years here, is placed. On the distance of one kilometer from the estate, in the centre of the village, under the belfry a crypt is placed, where the body of M.I. Pyrogov is saved and embalmed by his apprentice professor D.I. Vyvodtsev.

In the urban-type community Voronovytsia in a big park a house is situated, where in 1869–1870 the inventor of the first in the world plane – Russian naval officer O.F. Mojaiskyi lived.

To the southern east from Vinnytsia the town Nemyriv is placed. The house where the famous Ukrainian writer Marko Vovchok (Maria Olexandrivna Vilinska) lived has remained here. Now in this premises the memorial museum of the writer is created. In a big park the Nemyriv rest home known far from the confines of the region is placed. The building where it is situated is an architectural memorial of the XIX century. In due time the famous Russian commander O.V. Suvorov, the writer Honore' de Balzac, composer Ludwig van Beethoven spent their time in this park.

In 1821 the great Russian poet M.O. Nekrasov was born in Nemyriv.

On the neighborhood of Nemyriv there are the remains of the Scythian ancient settlement of the VII century BC – one of the biggest in Ukraine.

In Bratslav, an ancient Ukrainian town, the remains of the ground earth fortifications of the period of the liberating war of 1648– 1654 of the Ukrainian people remained.

There are many outstanding places in Tulchyn and its neighborhoods. During 1796-1797 the headquarters of O.V. Suvorov were situated in the town. Near Tulchyn, near the villages Tymanivka, Nestervarky, Kynasheva and Dranky the remains of the earth constructions where O.V. Suvorov taught the Russian soldiers to storm the enemy fortifications remained. In the centre of village Tymanivka there is a stone house where O.V. Suvorov lived. Now there is a museum there. Out of the village, in the forest, the "Suvorov wells" remained. In 1954 in Tulchyn the memorial to O.V. Suvorov was built. Being in Tulchyn and Tymanivka, O.V. Suvorov wrote a book «The art to win».

During 1816–1826 Tulchyn has been one of the centers of the Decembrists movement in Ukraine. In the house № 20 in Pestel street P.I. Pestel - the organizer of the Decembrists in the southern Russian lived in the same time. Here he met O.S. Pushkin. In Lenin street in house № 1 where now the local history museum is placed the Decembrists have often met.

In this town the outstanding Ukrainian composer M.D. Leontovych lived and worked for a long period. The Polish poet Julius Slovatskyi was sometimes here.

The architectural memorials of the XVIII century remained here: the former palace of Pototskyi and the barracks of suvorov heroes.

Not far from Tulchyn the town Ladyjyn is situated. The remains of the earth and underground fortifications of the times of XIV–XVII centuries remained here. In the neighborhood of Ladyjyn, over the Southern Bug, there is a gorge that for its beauty and special attractiveness has the name "Ladyjyn Switzerland". The territory between Ladyjyn and village Chetvertynivka in the past was named the gorge Batig. Here in May 1652 the battle between the Cossacks and Polish-gentry took place, known in the history as the battle near Batig. In this battle Bogdan Hmelnytskyi routed the Polish-gentry army. On the place where this historical battle was won, an obelisk is placed.

In the village Chobotartsi (nowadays village Zabolotne of Kryjopil district) in 1886 the outstanding Ukrainian scientist-microbiologist D.K. Zabolotnyi was born. In 1929 he was buried here. In 1928 D.K. Zabolotnyi was elected as the president of the Academy of sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialistic Republic. In the house where D.K. Zabolotnyi was born lived a museum is organized.

In the village Nementsi (Illintsi district) on the 9 (21) September 1832 P.I. Nishynskyi, the outstanding Ukrainian composer and writer, the founder of the Ukrainian theatre music was born. He was first who translated "Iliad" and "Odyssey" into Ukrainian. A special popularity among the wide mass has his song «Zakuvala ta syva zozulia».

In the village Voroshylovtsi (Tyvriv district) during the period of national-liberating war of 1648–1654 against the Polish-gentry oppression the sotnik Shpachenko stood with his army. In this village the grave of the famous Ukrainian composer and writer P.I. Nishynskyi is placed. The house where the composer lived is saved.

In the battle near the village Krasne (Tyvriv district) the national hero and beloved Cossacks commander Danylo Nechai died. A high barrow and a memorial on the field of the collective farm «Chervona zirka» (between the villages Krasne and Cheremoshne) is placed the grave of the Bratslav colonel Danylo Nechai.

The village Ometyntsi (Nemyriv district) is the fatherland of the legendary hero of the first defense of Sevastopol (1854–1855) P.M. Kishka. Honoring the memory about the glorious defender of Sevastopol, the sailors of the Black Sea fleet in the days of celebrating the century since the first defense of Sevastopol built a bronze memorial on the fatherland of the hero.

The village Kalnyk (Illintsi district) in due time was the residence of Kalmyk and Vinnytsia colonel Ivan Bogun. The earth fortifications of the XVII century remained in the village.

In the picturesque surroundings on the bank of the river Rusava the village Stina (Kryjopil district) is placed. In its centre, on the Zamkova mountain, the remains of the fortification of XVII century remained. In 1651 those fortifications were stormed by the Polish-gentry army by they could not seize them. In the neighborhood of the village the rests of the Slavonic settlement of the IX– XI century remained.

In the village Homutyntsi (Kalynivka district) the famous Ukrainian writer S.V. Rudanskyi was born and lived for some period.

The great Russian composer P.I. Tchaikovsky came to the villages Brailiv and Siomaky (Jmerynka district) five times. Here he wrote a set of his wonderful creations. The first time P.I. Tchaikovsky came to Brailiv in 1878, the last time in 1880. In Siomaky the composer has practically finished his work on the opera «Maid of Orleans». In the neighborhood vilages P.I. Tchaikovsky collected and studied the national songs and melodies. The house where the composer lived was destroyed by the fascists. In the neighborhood of Brailiv, in the picturesque location, there is a rock where P.I. Tchaikovsky liked to rest and write his creations. In the masses it is known as the "Rock of Tchaikovsky".

In Jmerynka district in the village karmaliukove (former Golovchyntsi) in 1787 Ustym Karmaliuk - the leader of the peasant movements on Podillia - was born.

The biggest settlement of the near-Dnipro part of the region is Mogyliv-Podilskyi. There is a local history museum here, where the nature, history and economy of Prydnistrovia are shown.

Not far from Mogyliv-Podilskyi in the village Ozaryntsi, there are the rests of the fortress of the times of liberating war of the Ukrainian nation of 1648–1654.It also incorporates are: water mill, church of the Annunciation, the remains of the synagogue, Jewish cemetery with tombstones (matseyvamy) 300-500 years ago.

In 3 kilometers from the village Grygorivka, in the forest, there are the remains of one of the big settlements of the Scythian period. In the village Nagoriany on the straight-hanging rock there are seven caves on two levels, that in ancient times were the inhabitation of the promitive people.

On one of the rocks the bas-relief of T.G. Shevchenko was carved by a good master-patriot. The date "1920" is under the relief. During the temporary fascists occupation the bas-relief was damaged.

In 3 kilometers from the village Nagorian above the river Liadova there is the village with the same name. In the limestone rocks near this village there are caves and remains of a big monastery – architectural memorial of the XI–XIV centuries. This is one of the seven wonders of Vinnitsa. St. Usiknovenskyy current monastery, one of the oldest monasteries XI-XIX century, received poetic name Podolski Athos. Monastery complex is situated on rocky mountain terrace on the Dniester. The ensemble consists of three cave temples: Beheading the Head of John the Baptist, Saint Paraskeva Friday and St. Anthony Cave. At the monastery lies the grave monks ХVІІІ-ХІХ century, as well as healing springs of water.

Down the Dnister from Mogyliv-Podilskyi a picturesque village Bronnytsia is placed, where one of the biggest caves in Prydnistrovia remained, in which the population during the Tatar-Turkish attacks was recounted.

In the village Kukavtsi (Mogyliv-Podilskyi district) an outstanding Russian painter, master of painting of the first half of the XIX century V.A. Tropinin lived. Here he wrote many famous portraits and pictures, in particular the portraits of the paesant-serf R. Barabosh and viyt of the Kukavtsi volost Todosiy Babchal, pictures «Young Ukrainian peasant», «Peasant with ax», «Laundress», «Gold-seamstress», «Wedding in Kukavtsi» and other. One of the most precious creations that the Russian painter left to the Ukrainian nation is the portrait of the legendary national leader Ustym Karmaliuk. A church built on the project and supervision of V.A. Tropinin, who was a serf of count Morikov, remained in Kukavtsi. This church is the precious and unique architectural creation of Tropinin.Church painted his brush with fragments Podolski ornament. On the territory of the church a memorial sign V.A. Tropinin.

On the picturesque banks r.Dnister of which are seen close up the wooded banks of the fraternal Moldova, located village Kreminne. To forget can be rest on the bank of the Dniester in this place, and interesting stories of old-timers Places Second World War period - namely, until that was part of the Mogilev-Yampolsky dill of district and going to see tourists from different cities of Ukraine. Interesting are recent events of research and study of these fortifications, which are conducted by experts-fortyfikatoramy from Kyiv, an organization of veterans and Navy Intelligence of Ukraine, engineering and fortification reunification "Citadel", Mogilev-Podolsky reunification "Everest" and "Orthodox Scouts ".

Lovers of rural tourism might be interested in recreational zone of the Dniester in the village. Bernashivka (p. Bernashivka St.Levadivska, 24, owner - Galina D. Antoniuk). Here is chateau framed in folk style, the service - interesting entertainment dosuhova program with the presentation of all types of agricultural products produced in households, including - honey. On the estate garden, vegetable garden, vineyard, flower garden, pets and poultry, home apiary products and beekeeping. Interesting walking tours within 10 km, riding cart, fishing village on the river and Zhvan r.Dnister. On the outskirts of forests - mushrooms, strawberries, herbs. In leisure hours - evenings with Ukrainian songs and herbal tea, as well as family holidays at home.

Located in Mogiliv-Podilsk district and places of military glory, namely Serebriyskyy DOT (p. Serebria Mogilev-Podolsk district) - a unique fortification, the largest in the first line of defense Mogilev-Yampolsky dill of district number 12 (the line of Stalin). Built in the early 30s of the twentieth century under the direction of DM Karbysheva, the development team of Soviet engineers fortyfikatoriv. The important role played in the first months of WWII.

In Iampil district there is the village Busha, where the great events during the liberating struggle of the Ukrainian nation against the Polish-gentry conquerors in 1648–1654 took place. The great part of these events is described in the artistic creation of the Ukrainian writer M.P. Starytskyi «Defense of Busha». In the centre of the village the rests of the fortress, cellars and subways remained.

In 3 kilometers from Busha there is the so-called Haidamak ravine in which the river Vushanka flows. The ravine is rather beautiful and picturesque. On the right bank of the river Vushanka, in the stone rock, there is a cave known in the mass as the "Haidamak cave». The Haidamak ravine and cave, according to the legends, were the places of stay of the national avengers of the XVIII century – haidamaks.

In the village Gontivtsi (former Serby) in 1768 one of the leaders of the peasant revolt on Podillia Ivan Gonta was put to death by the Polish gentry.
